‘Plight of the Honey Bee’

Honey bees are mysteriously disappearing at a catastrophic rate – a crisis known as Colony Collapse Disorder and researchers are working to determine the cause. This is particularly alarming considering honey bees are responsible for pollinating one out of every three bites a person eats.

In our latest project ‘Plight of the Honey Bee’ we look to raise awareness regarding the alarming situation honey bees face. Honey bees need action taken now as one third of our daily diet relies on honey bee pollination. This film will help children understand the honey bee’s plight and will give helpful information on how everyone can get involved to spread the word. Why are honey bees in trouble?

  • Worldwide there is disturbing evidence that pollinating animals have suffered from loss of habitat, chemical misuse, introduced and invasive plan and animal species, and diseases and parasites.
  • Many pollinators are federally “listed species,” meaning that there is evidence of their disappearance in natural areas.
  • The U.S. has lost over 50% of its managed honeybee colonies over the past 10 years.
